Verizon Product Rendering System

Agency 140 / Senior CG Artist & Co-Head of Department - (long-term contract)

Project Summary

Developed Verizon’s in-house product rendering look across packaging and digital campaigns—delivering 12K assets, collaborating with design leads, and creating a vendor-facing QC system to maintain visual standards at scale.

Objectives / Goals

  • Create a consistent visual identity for 3D-rendered products across packaging, web, and retail

  • Align internal and external teams around a single rendering style and quality benchmark

  • Enable scale by defining standards for global vendor use

My Role & Contributions

Base image
  • Built high-resolution (12K) renders for flagship devices used across Verizon packaging and digital campaigns

  • Partnered with Verizon’s internal design team and creative directors to align rendering style with brand guidelines

  • Led internal reviews and developed lookdev pipelines to maintain visual consistency across departments

  • Authored the vendor-facing 3D device rendering QC and standards documentation—used to guide overseas teams in matching Verizon’s in-house rendering standards

  • Collaborated with vendors to troubleshoot and refine submissions to meet visual expectations

Visual Samples & QC Standards Guide

To ensure consistency across all product renders, I developed a comprehensive QC standards guide detailing lighting setups, camera angles, and rendering specifications. This guide was instrumental in aligning internal teams and external vendors with Verizon’s visual expectations.

Key Specifications

  • Lighting Environment: Custom Maya lighting rig built to match Verizon’s internal photography department’s standardized lighting setup

  • Scene Units:
Maya set to Centimeters to ensure consistent scale across product lines

  • Device Orientation:
    Product rotation: -37.5°

  • Camera Configuration:

    • Translate: x: 0, y: 0, z: -111.163

    • Rotation: x: -4, y: 0, z: 0

    • Focal Length: 140mm

  • Packaging vs. Non-Packaging Assets:

    • Assets used for packaging follow high-resolution spec with enhanced detail

    • Phone cases and tablets not used for packaging follow a lighter spec using the above defaults

“This project marked an early step in my transition from pure execution into a more hybrid role—blending hands-on craft with visual leadership.”

Outcome, Impact & Reflection:

This project marked an early step in my transition from pure execution into a more hybrid role—blending hands-on craft with visual leadership. Building the rendering system taught me how powerful clarity and collaboration can be when scaling creative work. The standards I developed were adopted across multiple product lines and used by over five external vendors. Their implementation led to a 30% reduction in revision cycles and improved turnaround times by 25%, ultimately helping Verizon’s marketing team streamline approvals and maintain consistent quality at scale.

Curious how I can bring this kind of system-level thinking to your team?
